TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – April 7, 2015 – The Florida Legislature has taken a step to modernize Florida insurance laws by passing House Bill 273, which would give policyholders the option to receive insurance documents via email rather than regular mail delivery.
“This is great for Florida consumers and it helps insurers meet policyholder’s demands by offering them flexibility with e-delivery,” says Logan McFaddin, the state government relations manager for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI). “It also frees policyholders from having to keep track of paper renewal notices and other important insurance documents, which is a real win for Floridians.”
The bill still needs Gov. Rick Scott’s signature to become law. If signed, it becomes effective July 1, 2015.
If the governor approves, Florida will become the 28th state to adopt legislation that allows insurers to conduct policyholder transactions over the Internet. In 2014, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming enacted similar legislation.
“This project has been a priority for PCI in several states,” says McFaddin. “Not only does it meet the needs of our digital-age consumers, but it promotes an environmentally friendly alternative to the over production of paper documents.”
